July 8, 2018, the day we finally move! A rented van, dad’s pick-up and our car… everything needs to fit in. Fortunately we have the skilful help of a couple of strong friends.
Finally everything fits in, not one inch left for another box or so.
After a tiring journey we arrive two days later at our destination: home! We need to unload everything again, and soon, the next day the rented van needs to be driven back in order to save costs.
The day of arrival we set up one of our bell tents. Our friends choose to sleep in the back of the rented van.
One of the first things we have to build is an outside ‘kitchen’, friend-guests are coming within a week…
A dry compost toilet also needs to be build soon…
... it meets its purpose extremely well.
The animals, Chichu here in a tree, feel soon at home, it’s the first time they experience so much freedom.
Paco, our dog, seems to have the most trouble with it all. He keeps lying on his pillow of the old house and waiting for his morning, afternoon and evening walks, although he can walk freely the entire day.
The cat Miki is honouring the saying "the hotter the day, the longer the cat”. She stretches herself as much as she can at one of the coolest places in the house.
Our new member of the family, our guard dog to be, we call her Tika. She was found in the forest with nine other puppies, and she connected immediately with Paco at their first meeting.
We dig a cable in the ground, which is hard like cement. This way electricity can go from the generator in the garage and the sun panels, still to be installed on top of it, to the house.
We even try the washing machine, but this turns out to be more complicated than we thought… the pressure of the water should be so high that we would have to place a 1000 liter deposit at 4 meters high, something we postpone for now. We add water with a watering can when needed and that works. You just have stick around a bit.
Here we just get back with our first 1000 liter water deposito
